Following tables and examples are provided to assist designers when working out escape signs general arrangement plans; and surveyors when verifying escape signage arrangements.
 
Item Escape arrangement Tables
1 In passenger areas, all primary escape doors provided for passenger use leading to other passenger spaces - such as passenger stairway enclosures, alleyways or embarkation areas - and normally used as throughfares shall be clearly indicated with a luminous / illuminated sign marked with "Exit" and relevant escape symbol; 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 14, 15,
2 In passenger areas, all primary escape doors leading to crew/service spaces - such as stairway enclosures, alleyways or embarkation areas not normally used as throughfares - i.e. to be used only in emergency conditions - should be clearly indicated with a luminous / illuminated sign marked with "Emergency Exit" and the relevant escape symbol; 5, 8, 9, 10,13,15
3 In passenger areas, secondary escape doors normally used as throughfares by passengers (i.e. leading to other passenger spaces - such as public rooms, passenger stairway enclosures, alleyways or passenger promenades) should be clearly indicated with a photoluminescent sign marked with the relevant "Exit" sign; 6, 7, 8,10,13,14,16
4 In passenger areas, secondary escape doors leading to crew / service spaces or to other passenger areas not normally used as throughfares - such as stair enclosures, alleyways, public rooms, service rooms or embarkation areas - shall be clearly indicated with a photoluminescent sign marked with the relevant "Emergency Exit" sign; 6, 7, 9, 11
5 In crew/service areas, all primary escape doors normally used as throughfares and leading to other crew/service spaces - such as crew/service stairway enclosures, alleyways or embarkation areas - should be clearly indicated with a luminous / illuminated sign marked with "Exit" and relevant escape symbol; 16, 17
6 In crew/service areas, all primary escape doors not normally used as throughfares (e.g. leading to passenger spaces such as passenger stairway enclosures, alleyways, etc.) should be clearly indicated with a luminous / illuminated sign marked with "Emergency Exit" and relevant escape symbol; 12
7 In crew/service areas, all secondary escape doors leading to passenger areas or crew/service spaces not normally used as throughfares should be clearly indicated with photo-luminescent signs marked with the relevant "Emergency Exit" sign; 11, 12
8 In machinery spaces, or in general on decks below the bulkhead deck, vertical ladders, when primary means of escape from a watertight compartment, should be clearly identified by a luminous / illuminated sign with "Escape" and relevant escape symbol. 18, 19
9 In machinery spaces, or in general on decks below the bulkhead deck, watertight doors which constitute secondary means of escape from the watertight compartment should be clearly indicated by a photoluminescent sign with the relevant "Emergency Exit" sign; 18, 19
10 In machinery spaces or in general on decks below the bulkhead deck, escape doors leading to inclined stairs which constitute the primary escape way from the watertight compartment should be clearly identified by a luminous / illuminated sign with "Exit" and relevant escape symbol; 18, 19

Note:
In all passenger cabins a placard (1) showing the location of the assigned Assembly Station and the two means of escape to it with respect to the cabin is posted on the interior side of the cabin door.
(1) Passenger cabin emergency information sign.
(2) Photoluminescent Assembly Station direction sign.
(3) Luminous or Illuminated EXIT sign at the exit door.
(4) Alleyway intermediate luminous or illuminated EXIT sign.
(5) (Photoluminescent) Exit sign.
